Blackwater Salvage

Blackwater Salvage descends for evidence, not treasure. A climate recorder and rare samples lie below the thermocline after their mooring failed, while the trench continues to register aftershocks. Deep dub techno and halftime bass turn every depth change into pressure; udu, frame drum, contrabass clarinet, bowed metal, and sparse sonar synthesis keep the vessel tactile and inhabited. The crucial tradeoff is ballast against samples. The final ascent returns less material than hoped for, but enough data to justify the risk—and everyone aboard.
